Geophysical prospecting 2006 |
Main goals of geophysical prospecting at Al-Khidr site
- detect the course of anomalies and remains from 24AA to the SW (i.e. to measure the part between 24AA and in 2004 prospected area 4) and from area 4 to area 3 prospected in 2004) with the help of DEMP and GPR
- refine the course and appearance of architectures at the excavated part of the site along the W shoreline of Al-Khidr Bay with the help of GPR
Main goals of geophysical prospecting at Al-Awazim (with the help of DEMP and GPR)
- prove the existence and extent of the Bronze Age site
- interprete the anomalies
- identify and limit the archaeological structures
Main goals of geophysical prospecting at Al-Qusur
- test the DEMP method at the archaeological remains visible on surface
- identify possible continuation of the chosen household that is not visible on surface
- test the GPR at the archaeological remains visible on surface
- identify possible continuation of the chosen household that is not visible on surface
Main goals of geophysical prospecting at F6
- prove the existence of underground structures between two excavated areas of Bronze Age site with the help of GPR
Geophysical methods
Two geophysical methods were used:
- dipole electromagnetic profiling method (DEMP – description of the method see in Geophysical prospecting 2004),
- ground penetrating radar (GPR).
Mala (Sweden) GPR system RAMAC X3M with the antenna 500MHz (to depth 2 m) and the antenna 250MHz (to depth deep 4 m) was used for measurements at Al-Khidr (150 x 30 m), Al-Awazim (50 x 50m), Al-Qusur (50 x 50 m) and F6 (76 x 60 m).
